Benchmark's first major success came from eBay (invested in 1997), which went public in just 18 months with returns exceeding 100 times! After the Internet foam burst in 2000, Benchmark avoided most risks and increased its investment in social media, software and mobile Internet in the following decade: Twitter(2007) Zillow(2005) Yelp(2005)

OpenTable(2006) Bill Gurley joined Benchmark in 1999 and later became an early investor in Uber, bringing huge returns to the company.
